Elvene's Story

Starting fresh after maternity leave

After five years in aerospace sales, Elvene knew she wanted a career that felt more personal. Now she’s training as a groomer, building confidence and planning a home business that fits around family life.

Elvene is 31 and originally from France, now living in the UK. Before grooming, she worked in aerospace sales for five years. It was stable and professional, but after maternity leave she began thinking differently about her future.

“I wanted to restart fresh and finally pursue something I had loved since I was little – working with animals.”

With a toddler at home, flexibility mattered. She needed something she could shape around family life rather than long corporate hours. Being able to choose the days that worked for her made it manageable.

Looking back, she’s proud of the commitment it took – especially with travel and parenting to balance.

“I’m actually quite proud of myself for sticking with it.”

As she progressed, she discovered she especially enjoyed scissoring work. Grooming Schnauzers and a Pomeranian called Sandy stood out.

“It felt stylish and rewarding.”

The shift for her came when she began making decisions independently during a groom – choosing tools confidently, trusting her approach, and seeing clear results.

“The moment I started working more independently, I felt so proud of my progress.”

Finishing practical training felt grounding as much as exciting. She knows improvement comes with practice, but she no longer feels unsure.

“I feel so much more confident now.”

Her next step is to complete her theory work while setting up a home grooming business that works around her family life. That balance was something she couldn’t find before.

For Elvene, this journey has been about starting again – not from zero, but from experience – and building something that fits her life now.
