Matted coats policy
Adhering to the Animal Welfare Act for Pet Care
At Upper Hound, we strictly abide by Section 9 of the Animal Welfare Act. It emphasises the importance of:
- Providing a suitable environment and diet for animals.
- Allowing animals to exhibit normal behaviour patterns.
- Ensuring proper housing conditions concerning other animals.
- Protecting animals from pain, suffering, injury, and disease.
We guarantee that under our care, your pet will not experience pain or suffering.
Remember: A brush today keeps the clipping at bay!
If your dog arrives with a matted coat:
- We won't cause them discomfort. Any grooming beyond 20 minutes for a matted coat is deemed inhumane.
- Expect a different look for your dog upon pick-up. In extreme cases, matted coats might need to be fully clipped for the pet's well-being.
- Brushing matted fur not only harms your dog but damages the coat quality. Clipping and allowing the coat to regrow naturally ensures a healthier fur in the future.
Your dog's well-being is paramount to us, and we require your understanding and consent before proceeding with any significant grooming actions.
